Store brand canned tomatoes saved my chili night. Hit exactly $4.87 for dinner.

I was making chili for my family last Tuesday and realized I had exactly $5.00 to spend on the whole meal. Grabbed store brand diced tomatoes for 79 cents, store brand kidney beans for 89 cents, and a little ground beef on sale for $2.50. Added my own chili powder and garlic from the pantry. Dinner fed all four of us and nobody noticed the difference from name brand. Has anyone else had luck swapping store brand canned goods in a dish?

Is it still a win if I burned the garlic bread? Asking for a friend.

Charcoal adds a nice crunch, right?

omg literally me last week. thought i was being a gourmet chef and walked away for "just a sec" to check my phone. came back to what can only be described as garlic flavored briquettes. but here's the thing - my dog actually loved the burnt bits i scraped off, so that was a win for her at least. made myself a sad bowl of cereal and pretended the whole thing never happened. your friend should just call it "smoked garlic bread" and own it.
