Store brand frozen veggies saved my stir fry game

I used to always buy the name brand frozen broccoli mix for my stir fries. Last week the store was out so I grabbed the 99 cent store brand bag instead. The pieces were smaller and more broken up than I expected. Honestly though it cooked faster and I couldn't taste any difference in the final dish. I saved about $2.50 on that single meal and it fed me for three nights. Has anyone else found specific store brand items that work just as good or better?

Oh wow, @the_joseph really nailed it on the marketing angle. One thing I haven't seen mentioned though is that those smaller broken pieces actually soak up sauce way better than big uniform chunks do.

Totally agree with this. I think it's one of those things where the name brand stuff has just been coasting on reputation for years. Once you start paying attention, you realize a lot of the store brand stuff is literally the same thing in a different bag, especially for basic frozen stuff like veggies or plain chicken. It makes you wonder how much money we've all just tossed away on packaging and marketing.
