Pulled a 12-hour shift and my Hobart mixer just froze up mid-batch

I was working on a 50-pound batch of pizza dough last Tuesday at the restaurant when my trusty Hobart 20-quart mixer just stopped mid-knead. The motor was humming but the hook wasn't moving at all. Had to rescue the dough by hand and call a repair guy who found a stripped gear inside. Any of you ever had a mixer die at the worst possible moment?

That stripped gear sounds brutal. About how many years did you get out of that Hobart before it gave out? Were you running it close to full capacity most days?

My buddy ran a Hobart in his diner for almost 18 years before it finally stripped a gear, and he was slamming it at full capacity every breakfast and lunch rush, @jenny_coleman.
