Stop washing your cast iron with soap and calling it seasoned

I keep seeing line cooks scrub their cast iron pans with dish soap and then claim the seasoning is fine. After 3 months of watching this at my last gig, every single one of those pans had rust spots and food sticking like crazy. Has anyone else had to retrain their crew on basic cast iron care?

Blew my mind when I saw a guy scrub his cast iron with steel wool and soap then say it was seasoned.

3 years of working in kitchens and i still have to hide my lodge from the new guy because he thinks dish soap is the same as seasoning. @drew_park you just reminded me of the time i watched a coworker sand his pan down to bare metal and call it "restoring
