A retired sweeper in Louisville told me to look at the sky before starting a job

Last month I was working a row of old brick houses on Bardstown Road. About halfway through my second flue, an older gentleman walked up and asked if I had checked the weather. I thought he was just making small talk, so I said it looked clear. He shook his head and pointed at some thin clouds moving fast from the west. He said, 'Those clouds mean the wind is shifting. You set up on the wrong side of the house, you'll be chasing soot all afternoon.' I laughed it off until I finished that chimney and sure enough, the wind flipped and blew a pile of debris right back into the living room. I had to tarp everything and redo my setup. I spent about 45 extra minutes cleaning up because I didn't listen. Since then I always take 30 seconds to look at the clouds and the treetops before I angle my equipment. Has anyone else learned a simple trick like that from an old timer that saved you a real headache?
