Found a dried squirrel blocking a flue in a house built in 1923

Pulled a job in Portland last Tuesday and there was this mummified squirrel jammed halfway down the clay liner. Has anyone else run into weird animal blockages that took forever to clear out?

Used to think old houses were just gonna have normal chimney issues like creosote or cracks. Ngl this changed my mind completely. A dried squirrel in a flue from 1923 is a whole different level of nasty. Took me forever to get it out without crumbling the liner. Never would have guessed animals could get that far down and just stay there for decades. Makes me wonder what else is hiding in these old clay liners. Now I always check for blockages way more carefully than I used to.

Agree with @the_ryan, never know what's stuck in those old flues until you look.
