I gave up on my old brush for a month and the difference was huge

Everyone in my area swears by the heavy, old-school wire brushes for cleaning flues. I used one for years, thinking the weight did the work. Then I tried a newer, lighter poly brush for a solid month on about 15 jobs. The old way left a lot of fine soot behind, especially in those tricky, slightly offset flues. The lighter brush with the right bristle stiffness got into every corner and left the tile way cleaner. I even had a client in Springfield comment on how much less dust there was in their fireplace after. It just moves with the shape of the flue better instead of forcing its way through. Has anyone else made the switch and found they get a better clean?

My neighbor still uses the old heavy kind and his truck is always coated in soot dust. Makes me sneeze just looking at it.

My buddy Dave had a similar problem last winter. His neighbor two doors down ran an old coal stove and the fine black grit settled on everything. Dave's white patio furniture turned gray in a week, and his car windshield looked like it was sprinkled with pepper. He finally had to talk to the guy, just like @jadew63 might need to do, because it was getting into his garage and ruining some tools.

Gray patio furniture in a single week, that's wild. I can't imagine the cleanup on that, like you'd be wiping down surfaces every single day. And getting into the garage to ruin tools, that's when it goes from annoying to actually costing money. Dave must have been really patient to let it go that long before saying something.
