Pulled 4 gallons of creosote from a flue in Portland and the homeowner swore they burned seasoned oak
The lady in Portland told me she only burned seasoned oak for 3 winters, but when I ran my brush down the flue, 4 gallons of shiny black creosote came out in sheets. I checked her woodpile and the splits were still hissing and wet in the middle, so I showed her the moisture meter reading 32 percent. How do you all bring this up with customers without sounding like you are calling them a liar?
Had a guy in Beaverton swear up and down his chimney was clean cause he burned those fake wax logs. Pulled the cap off and the whole thing was coated in this glossy junk that looked like black glass. Took me two hours with a scraper just to get through the first layer. He kept saying his father in law told him those things burn clean. I just handed him a flashlight and let him look up the flue himself. Sometimes you don't gotta say a word, the chimney talks for you.
