Am I the only one who figured out the bus app trick for the 44 route?
For 8 months I stood at the stop on 5th and Main watching the 44 bus drive past full, because the app said it was coming and I believed it. Then a guy named Ray at the stop showed me the trick: you tap the route number twice in the app to see the live crowd report from other riders, not the schedule guess. I tried it Tuesday and skipped two packed buses, waited 11 minutes, and got a seat on the third one. The catch is almost nobody taps the report button, so it only works if a few people on that route use it. Has anyone else found a way to make this work on the routes where nobody reports?
Oh sure, and I'm guessing Ray also showed you where the fountain of youth is and how to get a rent-controlled apartment in this city? Look, the double tap thing is real, I've used it, but calling it a "trick" is like calling tying your shoes a life hack. The real magic is getting strangers to actually tap that report button, which is about as likely as everyone on the 44 suddenly deciding to shower before 8am. I've tried bribing people with coffee at the stop and still got maybe two reports a week. Your best bet is to just watch the crowd at the stop itself, if twenty people are standing there looking angry, that bus is already full, simple as that. Good luck with the routes where nobody reports, you might as well be reading tea leaves.
