Question about the night our neighborhood chat went dead silent for 3 days straight
So our neighborhood uses a group chat app to talk about everything, trash pickup, lost dogs, the usual. Last Monday a water main broke on our block and 40 homes lost pressure for about 6 hours. The city posted updates on their main page but nothing in our chat, so people started guessing. By Tuesday someone posted a rumor that the boil notice was coming, and a neighbor copied it to another block chat without checking. Within a day the whole thing turned into people arguing about who heard what from a guy at the hardware store. Then Thursday the actual city guy showed up at our monthly meeting and just said, quote, we never got added to your chat, nobody asked us. He gave us a direct line and asked us to make him an admin. It has been 9 days and things are calmer, though a few folks still post the rumor stuff out of habit. Has anyone here gotten their city or ward office actually into their block chat, and did it hold up or fizzle after a month?
