Found out my city's food waste program cut methane by a huge number
I was digging through my local utility bill insert last week and saw a stat that stopped me cold. Our city of Austin started a curbside composting pickup 2 years ago, and the report said it cut landfill methane emissions by 18,000 tons a year. That's like taking 3,800 cars off the road, which I didn't expect from just tossing banana peels and coffee grounds. I've been half-hearted about sorting my scraps, but now I'm actually rinsing out containers and checking what's compostable. Has anyone else seen real numbers from their local program that made them more consistent with it?
