My neighbor told me to skip the electric car and keep my old gas guzzler, and three years later I've spent $4,000 more on gas than she has on charging.

She drove a 2021 Bolt and I listened to her saying electric was too expensive and unreliable, but now I'm stuck paying $300 a month at the pump while her electricity bill barely budged has anyone else had someone give terrible car advice that cost you real money?

Hold on a second. $300 a month at the pump sounds high unless you're driving a monster truck cross-country every week. Most people don't spend that much unless they're commuting two hours each way or have a lead foot. How many miles are you actually driving? And did you factor in that your car was probably paid off years ago while she's still got a loan on that Bolt? You're comparing a monthly fuel cost to a monthly car payment plus electricity. That math ain't adding up.

$300 a month at the pump? Holy crap, that's basically a car payment going up in smoke right there.
