My ripped jacket taught me to stop throwing things away

I used to toss out any clothes with holes or tears. Then I saw how much fabric ends up in dumps each year. I started patching up my old jacket with some scrap material. It turned out better than I expected and lasted another season. Now I fix shoes, bags, and even furniture instead of buying new. Keeping stuff out of landfills feels good and saves money. This hands-on habit really helps cut down on waste and carbon from new products.

That part about the jacket turning out better than you expected... I get that. I had a pair of jeans I almost tossed, but I sewed on a patch from an old flannel shirt. It felt pretty good to do it myself, you know? Now I look at everything as a possible fix instead of a trash thing. Even got some glue to fix a wobbly chair leg last week. It's a small win every time.

@alice_grant bringing up furniture made me realize I was too quick to trash things. I mean, I fixed a torn backpack with some duct tape and it's still holding up. Idk, maybe it's just me but trying to repair stuff first actually feels worth it now.

You fix furniture? @jordan_young mentioned a chair, but that's next level!
