Our town spent $50k on a solar panel art piece instead of planting trees
The art piece generates maybe enough power for a few streetlights. A proper urban tree program would have cooled entire blocks, cut AC use, and absorbed way more carbon. Anyone else see public money spent on greenwashing instead of real solutions?

My buddy works for the city parks department... they had this whole plan for a low-cost tree planting drive in a hot neighborhood. Got scrapped because the budget went to a "sustainability sculpture" downtown. Now they're just watering the same old patches of dry grass, and that metal art thing gets all the photos for the mayor's newsletter. It just feels like a big missed chance to actually help people where they live.

Consider it a public pilot project for both art and energy.

Look at the bigger picture here. That sculpture gets people talking about green energy in a way a tree never could. It makes a hidden idea into something you can see and touch. Sure, trees help one block, but public art can change how a whole city thinks. Sometimes you need a flashy start to get real projects moving later. The attention it brings might actually fund more neighborhood work down the line.
