Guy running the Mazak next to me said to stop babying my inserts and let them eat, and he was dead right
I was running 4140 at 250 SFM scared of burning through 30 dollar inserts, and he told me to bump it to 500 and quit pecking at the material. Cut my cycle time by 40 percent and the inserts lasted just as long, so what feeds and speeds did you swear by until somebody proved you wrong?

4140 work hardens if you baby it, that's why 500 SFM cut better.
