Just realized my old mentor was wrong about climb milling

Guy named Tom at the shop in Dayton told me five years ago to always avoid climb milling on steel. Said it'd wreck the tool every time. Last month I tried it on a 303 stainless job with a .050 DOC and the finish came out cleaner than I've ever gotten. Has anybody else found traditional advice like that just doesn't hold up anymore?
