My coolant pump giving out led to a cleaner shop routine
So my coolant pump gave out mid-shift yesterday, total pain. Had to finish the job dry, which I was dreading. But without coolant, I noticed chips were flying everywhere, so I had to stop and clean more often. Turns out, this forced cleaning got me to see my usual chip management was lazy. Now I'm setting up a regular cleanup routine, and it's actually speeding things up. I'm even getting less wear on my tools because chips aren't piling up. Has anyone else had a breakdown that accidentally improved their process? Let's hear your unexpected wins.

That forced cleaning story is TOO relatable. My own chip management is so bad, a pump dying would just mean I'm mining for my tools later.

Organizing first saves more time later though.

Honestly, that's brilliant.
Forced changes can really show you the weak spots. My old shop had a belt sander die, and hand filing some parts made me set up a better jig for the next one. It's funny how a broken thing can make you work smarter, not just harder. Glad it worked out for you.
