Blew $40 on a fancy coffee thermometer. Totally unnecessary.
I bought this Acaia lunar scale with a built-in temp probe. Thought I needed exact numbers. Turns out my $10 instant read from the grocery store works just fine. Boiling water is 212 degrees. Who knew. Anyone else waste cash on coffee gadgets you don't really need?

I used to be the guy who swore you needed all the fancy gear to make good coffee. I had a refractometer and everything for a while, trying to dial in the perfect extraction. But honestly, once I stopped chasing numbers and just paid attention to how the water looked and smelled, my coffee got way better. A thermometer is handy, but forty bucks for one that connects to my phone? That's just an expensive timer at that point. You're right, the cheap instant read does the same job for a fraction of the price.

An expensive timer" lol, I love that. Next thing you know we'll have smart mugs that text us when the coffee's done.

Preach! The phone-connected stuff is pure overkill.
