Comic con in Portland made me swear off free variant covers forever
I was at this booth on Saturday and some dude handed me a free comic for signing up to his newsletter. It looked fine at first, but when I got home I noticed the variant cover was just a cheap reprint of some 90s art with a new logo slapped on it. The guy at the booth said don't worry, it's worth 5 bucks, but honestly it felt like a gimmick to fill my bag with clutter. Has anyone else stopped grabbing those free variants and just started passing on the whole booth pitch?
Man that reminds me of the time I grabbed a free poster at a con and it turned out to be a blown up page from an old issue where the artist clearly traced a photo of Keanu Reeves. Hung it in my garage anyway because it looks kind of rad in a weird way.
