I was gatekeeping my own kid from comics for years without knowing it

My 10 year old asked me why I only had 'old man books' like my 1980s X-Men runs and nothing with Miles Morales. I looked at my collection in Portland and it hit me, I was stuck in my own era. Has anyone else had to update their whole mindset about what 'real' comics are for a new generation?

My kid asked the same thing a few years back. I started taking him to our local shop and just let him pick anything that looked cool. Seeing his excitement over the new stuff totally changed my view.
