My buddy's longboxes vs. my shelf, and I finally admitted he was right
I kept all 300 of my comics in short boxes stacked in a closet for 12 years, but last month at his place in Portland my buddy showed me his shelf setup with just 40 key issues facing out, and now I can actually find what I want to read without digging through 6 boxes and re-bagging everything that got bent. Has anyone else cut down their collection to just the ones they actually reread?
My garage went through the same thing. Had maybe 2000 baseball cards from 87 to 94, plus tools, plus old paint cans, and one weekend I just filled the truck bed three times for goodwill and the dump. Same deal with my closet of shirts I never wore. We keep stuff because getting rid of it feels like losing money or memories, but mostly it's just weight. Your buddy figured out what took me 20 years. Display the good stuff, store or sell the rest, and you'll actually enjoy what you kept.
