Pro tip: Hit up comic book bars when traveling for a unique fan experience
I look for bars with comic themes in any city I visit. In Austin, one had original art on display and trivia nights, which was SUPER fun.

Note that many are pop culture bars.

Check out bars that bring in local comic creators for live drawing events. I found one in Portland that had a different artist each month, and they'd sell their zines right there. That moves beyond just decor and into supporting the actual scene. It turns the bar into a hub for real fans to meet the minds behind the work. Have you ever seen a place that does something like that?

Yeah but when the_ryan says they're mostly pop culture bars, that's the whole problem. They slap a Batman logo on the wall and call it a theme. It feels lazy, like they just want to sell overpriced drinks to anyone who recognizes a character. The trivia is always surface level stuff anyone could google. I'd rather find a real comic shop with heart than another bar pretending to care.
