Got cornered by a 25 year veteran who said my laser layout was 'too perfect'

Was doing a rough-in for a retail build out in Tacoma last week. This old timer, Jim, walks over from the job next door and just stands there watching me shoot lines. After a minute he goes, 'You trust that thing too much.' I laughed it off but he kept talking. Said he's seen more callbacks from guys who follow a laser dead on through a whole pour than guys who use it for reference and then check with a chalk line and their gut. Said the building moves, the forms move, the laser moves even when it says it's level. He showed me a spot where my line was a half inch off from where the actual wall would land because the floor had a dip in it. Sure enough, I checked with a string and he was right. Hit me different because I've been running on lasers for like 8 years now and never thought to question them on every slab. Anyone else still do a manual cross check on big runs, or am I just old school now?
