My lead guy said to skip the extra concrete vibrator pass, and the floor cracked in 90 days

On a strip mall job in Tempe, we were pouring a 40x60 slab. My foreman, a guy with 20 years on me, told me one pass with the vibrator was fine to save time (his exact words were 'it's thick enough, trust me'). I went with it, but the GC's inspector flagged a couple honeycomb spots we had to patch. Fast forward three months, the owner calls with a hairline crack running right through the center. The repair bill was over four grand. Has anyone else had a veteran give you time-saving advice that totally backfired?

Learned that lesson the hard way too. Now I just nod and run the vibrator twice anyway. Their rush job isn't worth my call back.

Man, that's the only way to handle it. They never remember the rush when the floor caves in six months later. Doing it right the first time saves so many headaches. My old boss used to say a rushed job is just a future callback with extra steps.
