18 years of drysuit zipper wax and I had it backwards
Been slathering wax on the outside of my drysuit zipper since 2006, then a dive supervisor in Aberdeen told me to wax the inside tape first because that's what actually seals. He was right, my last 15 dives in 4 degree water had zero seepage. Anyone else been doing the outside only this whole time?

...and honestly I think half the problem is people like us never bothered to read the manual that came with the suit. That Aberdeen guy probably saved me from a really cold day eventually. But you gotta be careful with how much wax you put on the inside tape, too much and it can actually mess with the zipper slider. I learned that the hard way when my zipper started sticking halfway through a pull. A thin coat every few months and you're golden, the outside wax is really just for keeping the teeth moving smooth.
