Just realized the difference a proper pre-dive checklist makes after seeing our team's incident rate drop from 12 to 2 in a year.

Our new lead diver in Corpus Christi insisted on a printed checklist for every job, and now I won't suit up without running through it.

Printed checklists sound boring until you forget to check your tank pressure and have a real bad day. We used to just wing it, and I once went down with my weight belt undone. Spent the first minute of the dive chasing it across the sand like a total idiot. Now I'm a checklist convert, even if the new guy makes us look like nerds reading from a script on the boat.

Right? Checklists are basically just cheat sheets for not dying. I'll take looking like a nerd over looking like a clown chasing my gear any day.

Totally feel you @miamitchell. Nothing like a near miss to turn you into a believer, even if it means looking like a dork on the boat.
