My umbilical got snagged on a rebar mat 30 feet down in the Ohio River and I had to cut loose
Was doing a pier inspection near Cincinnati on a Tuesday morning when my umbilical caught on a rebar mat 30 feet down. I felt the tug and knew right away something was wrong because my air went tight for a second. Took me about 40 seconds to work the tangles free with my knife before my tender got me sorted on the line. Has anyone else had their hose snag on a job and what did you end up doing to get free?
Had almost the same thing happen to me on a dam job, my hose wrapped around a piece of scrap cable down about 25 feet. I stayed calm and worked my way back up the line hand over hand till I could reach the tangle and cut it with my dive knife. Getting the tender to keep just enough tension on the line makes all the difference when you're fighting something like that.
