I spent years zipping cables wrong and it cost me a server once
About 8 years ago I was working a contract at a small real estate office in Portland, replacing their old patch panel setup. I always used zip ties tight for a clean look until the owner asked me to swap one cable two months later. Snugged down zip ties had crushed the Cat5e so bad that three lines were getting high error counts. Now I use velcro strips for everything that might ever need to move, and I actually leave a little slack. Has anyone else lost a connection from over tightening ties or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

Did you use zip ties to keep your Christmas lights straight too? I stripped the jacket on a Cat6 run once trying to get that "perfect" bundle. Now I just let my cables look like spaghetti - works way better.

Totally agree. It's like that thing in life where the "right" way to do something turns out to be wrong for the long haul, you know? Makes you wonder how many other shortcuts or clean-looking fixes are actually time bombs waiting to go off. Ever find that kind of trap in other areas too?
