Did the guy actually show you any proof or data that premium filters are a waste, or was he just going off what he heard from someone else? I've seen tests where cheap filters literally fall apart after 5,000 miles, so I'm curious if he had any real reason for saying that or if he was just repeating old mechanic shop talk.

Oh man, I've been there lol. I had a buddy swear by the cheapest filters he could find until one literally crumbled in his hands during an oil change. Not saying you gotta buy the most expensive ones, but going with a trusted brand is usually worth the extra few bucks.
