The crashed server in Tulsa that cracked my data backup theory
I used to think cloud storage was enough until a local shop in Tulsa lost 6 years of client files when their main server died mid-job. They had backups, but nobody tested the restore, and the tape was corrupted. Has anyone else switched their approach after a real failure, or am I overreacting to one bad setup?
My cousin ran a small print shop and had a similar wake up call, except his was a flood in the basement where he kept the backup drives. Six years of wedding invites and business cards, gone in an afternoon. He now keeps one copy at his house, one at his mom's place across town, and one in a safe deposit box at the bank. Sounds like overkill until you watch someone lose everything twice.
