Standing in line at VidCon 2023 made me rethink my whole upload schedule
I was waiting for a panel last summer and started chatting with a girl who runs a 90k sub cooking channel. She said she stopped posting weekly and moved to every 10 days, and her views actually went up 40 percent. I tried the same thing in January and my retention went from 38 percent to 52 percent on my history videos. Weird part is I post less now but each one does better, which feels backward. Anyone else play with spacing out uploads instead of sticking to a fixed day?
That VidCon conversation sounds like it flipped a switch for you, and I get why. For two years I stuck to a Tuesday and Friday upload no matter what, and my average view duration sat around 41 percent. Then last fall I got sick for a week, missed a post, and just said screw it and started dropping videos whenever they were actually done. My retention jumped to 49 percent and my subs grew faster than when I was posting twice as often. I used to swear the algorithm wanted consistency above everything, but now I think it wants videos people finish, and rushing to hit a day was killing my quality. Spacing things out gave me room to cut the boring parts, and that did more for me than any upload streak ever did.
