Just realized my content audit wasted months

I spent forever tracking old posts without a clear goal. When I showed it to the boss, he asked what the point was. Feeling pretty dumb now.

Feel for you, that's a rough spot to be in. @the_thomas is right though, this kind of thing happens way more than people admit. Your boss probably asked because he genuinely didn't get the goal, not because you're dumb. The big lesson is just to always link the work to a business need before you start. Now you know, and honestly, most of us learn it the same hard way. Just file it under experience and start the next thing with a clear question to answer.

Remember my friend who spent weeks building this super detailed client report? She pulled all-nighters, made charts, the whole thing. Her manager took one look and just asked "so what do we do with this information?" She said it felt like the air left the room. Turns out he just wanted a simple list of high risk accounts, not a full analysis. She learned to ask "what problem are we solving" before touching a spreadsheet now.

Seriously, a wasted few months? That happens to everyone at some point. It's just data entry without a goal, not some huge career-ending mistake. Bosses ask "what's the point" about half the stuff anyone does. You learned you need a clear goal first, so now you know. Hardly anyone will even remember this by next week.
