My old boss in Tulsa insisted on storyboarding every blog post, even listicles
Back in 2017, he told me "if it doesn't flow like a movie, nobody reads past the third paragraph." I thought it was overkill for a simple ten point checklist post. But once I tried it, the time on page doubled and bounce rate dropped by almost 40 percent across six months. I still do it for anything longer than 800 words. Has anyone else been forced to try a slow method that actually stuck around?
Watching you say the time on page literally doubled is blowing my mind right now. I always thought storyboarding was just something film people did, and I would have bet money that listicles were way too short for it to matter. Forty percent bounce rate drop over six months is not a small thing either, that is a huge change. The part that gets me is the movie line your boss used, because I always skip around when I read lists. Maybe that is exactly why it worked, since the flow pulls your eye down the page instead of letting you jump. Now I want to try it on my next long post just to see what happens.
