My grandma's canned corned beef hash beats the $18 diner version I drove 40 minutes for
Two Saturdays ago I drove to a diner in Ann Arbor that charges $18 for corned beef hash and it came out gray and mushy. The next morning I opened a $2.50 can of the stuff, fried it in butter until the edges went crispy, and cracked two eggs on top. The cheap can had actual crusty bits and way more salt, which is the whole point of a comfort food. The fancy version was trying too hard and lost the thing that made it good. Does anyone else think the canned stuff wins over the restaurant kind?
