Saw a stylist in Austin use a kitchen scale to mix color and now I want one
Stopped by a salon on South Congress while visiting my sister and watched a stylist weigh her color instead of eyeballing it. She said her gray coverage got way more consistent, like 2 grams of this to 3 of that, done. Anyone here actually weigh their formula or is that overkill for a normal chair?
Have you noticed how this same thing keeps popping up everywhere lately? Coffee shops weigh their espresso shots, bartenders use jiggers for cocktails, bakers always used scales, and now hair color is getting the same treatment. Honestly it makes sense because our eyes are terrible at judging small amounts, like once you get past a certain point you just cannot tell 2 grams from 4 grams by looking. Tbh the bigger pattern is that any skilled trade eventually stops guessing and starts measuring, because that is how you make results repeatable instead of just hoping for the best every time. I started weighing my color about a year ago and my gray coverage got way more even, plus I waste less product because I am not mixing extra just in case. It felt like overkill at first but now eyeballing a formula seems crazy to me, like cooking without measuring anything and wondering why it never tastes the same twice.
