Tried a new toner formula on brassy hair and it turned mint green instead

I mixed a few drops of purple toner into my developer like usual, but I guess I grabbed the wrong bottle of base color by accident... ended up with this weird pastel green on my client's highlights. She was cool about it luckily. Learned to triple check my bottles before mixing now. Has anyone else had a toner reaction that just went totally sideways?

Pulled a blue toner on orange hair once and got swamp green.

Oh man, @sarah531 that sounds like a rough lesson in color theory. I've been there, it's like the hair equivalent of mixing blue and yellow paint and getting a sad, murky surprise. You think you're going to get a cool ash tone, and instead you get something that looks like you fell into a swamp on a bad day. Honestly, I think the whole "cool toned" trend is overrated for orange hair. Your mileage may vary, but in my experience, you gotta go way more neutral or even warm based to avoid that weird green cast. Swamp green is definitely not a good look, unless you're going for that Shrek cosplay vibe. Better luck with your next toner, hopefully it doesn't turn into a science experiment gone wrong.
