Shoutout to the old timer at the yard in Tacoma who told me to trust the load chart, not the radio
About six months back I was on a tilt-up job in Tacoma and my foreman kept pushing me to pick panels further out than I felt good about, saying the chart was for lawyers. A retired operator named Dale who hung around the yard told me the chart is the only guy on site who never lies to you, and to run my numbers before anybody starts yelling in my ear. I bumped out to where he wanted one afternoon, felt the rear start to get light, and set it right back down before it ever left the ground. Foreman was hot for about ten minutes until the ground guy said he saw the same thing. Now I hear some guys say you have to push limits to keep a job, and others say the chart is gospel and that is that. Where do you all land when the guy signing your check wants a pick you know is over? Do you shut it down, or do you find a way to make it legal first?
