TIL that old pottery shards can tell you more about ancient trade routes than any textbook

I was helping a friend sort through a box of stuff from a dig in New Mexico and found a piece of pottery with a type of glaze that shouldn't have been there. It was a black-on-white design, but the mineral composition matched a kiln site over 200 miles away near Taos. We looked it up and apparently that pattern shows up in like 3 different regions from the same time period. Has anyone else stumbled on a find that totally flipped what you thought you knew about local history?

Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to set up a 4-player game of Twilight Imperium?

I finally convinced my group to try Twilight Imperium last Saturday in Seattle. We spent 45 minutes just sorting tokens and reading the rulebook before we even picked factions. I learned that you need to block out at least 6 hours for a full game, minimum. Has anyone else found a faster way to get through that setup phase?

That guy at my local shop who claimed he read every issue of X-Men since 1963

I was at Jetpack Comics in Portland last month and this guy in his 50s starts telling me he's got a complete run of Uncanny X-Men from issue 1. He said he read them all twice and could name every villain from the first 100 issues. I asked him who the Hellfire Club's inner circle was in issue 129 and he totally froze. He stumbled through a vague answer about Sebastian Shaw but couldn't name Emma Frost or the White Queen. I felt bad but geez, don't brag like that unless you actually know your stuff. Has anyone else run into fans who oversell their knowledge?

My roommate made fun of me for it last night at dinner, but after 10 years of eating it this way I swear it makes the bread stay crispy longer, anyone else have a weird dipping habit they stand by?

Drove 3 hours to Harriman State Park and the tent sites were packed like sardines

I get that it's peak season, but charging $45 a night for a spot where you can hear your neighbor snore is ridiculous. Has anyone found a quiet campground within 2 hours of NYC that actually spaces the sites out?

Got a brutal comment on my guest post that actually fixed my strategy

I had this guest post on a decent marketing blog back in March, and someone in the comments said 'your links feel stuffed, not useful.' I was annoyed at first (obviously), but they were right. I was adding links just to get them there instead of making them part of the content. Now I only add a backlink if I can honestly say it helps the reader learn more about that specific point. Has anyone else had a tough comment change how you build links?

A customer told me my wall plates were crooked three jobs in a row

Last month I had three different customers point out that my coax wall plates weren't level. I always just eyeballed them and thought it was fine. After the third guy pulled out a level and showed me it was off by almost a quarter inch, I started carrying a small torpedo level in my pouch. Has anyone else had customers call them out on small stuff like this that totally changed how you work?

Appreciation post for my neighbor's leaf blower habit that fixed my lawn care routine

For 2 years I was raking every single leaf and bagging them up, thinking that was the only way to keep my lawn clean. Then my neighbor Bob told me he just blows them into a pile and mulches them with his mower, and said I was wasting 3 hours every weekend. Now I'm wondering if the old school rake-and-bag method is actually better for the grass or if Bob's shortcut is fine - what do you all do?

Overheard a guy at the shop say Marvel comics peaked in the 80s and I gotta push back

I was flipping through back issues at my local shop last Saturday and some dude told his friend that nothing modern comes close to Claremont's X-Men. Look I respect the classics and I grew up on those too. But stuff like Al Ewing's Immortal Hulk or the current Moon Knight run tells stories with way more psychological depth. Has anyone else felt like fans write off entire decades without giving the new stuff a fair shot?
