Skid steer bucket vs crane hook for moving rebar bundles, the bucket lost

Had a job last month in Fort Worth where I tried using a skid steer bucket rigged with chains to set rebar bundles instead of just using the crane hook with a proper spreader bar. The bucket kept twisting and the bundle slipped twice, nearly clocked a guy on the ground. Took about an extra 45 minutes of redo work versus just walking the crane over and doing it right. Anyone else fight the urge to get clever with attachments when a straightforward pick would've been faster?

Fort Worth huh, I mean that sounds like a rough day for sure but idk if it's the equipment's fault or just bad rigging. Buckets twist, that's kind of what they do, you know? I've seen guys use chains and a bucket for rebar plenty of times and it works fine if you choke it right and don't try to save time on the tag lines. Slipped twice though, that's on the guy doing the pickup, not the bucket. Maybe it's just me but 45 minutes extra sounds like you made it work and nobody got hurt, which is basically a win on a job site.
