Vent: A 22 year old rigger told me my hand signals looked like I was swatting bees
I was spotting a pick last month on a job in Tulsa and a kid fresh out of a rigging class told me my hand signals looked like I was swatting bees. At first I laughed it off, but then our guy in the seat said he had to guess twice on my stop signal, which is not great when there is 4,000 pounds hanging over a loading dock. So the next morning I stood in the yard and ran through the full set for 20 minutes, elbow out, flat hand, just like the card in the cab. Turns out I had been doing a lazy half wave for years and nobody bothered to mention it until a 22 year old with no filter did. Now the crew points at me when I signal and I just take it, because they are not wrong. Anyone else pick up a bad habit so slow that it took a rookie to call it out?
