Warning: A gust in Chicago last Tuesday nearly tipped my 80-tonner while I was lifting a 12-ton HVAC unit onto a roof.
The wind shifted fast, and my load chart said I was fine, but that sudden push from the side had me sweating for a solid minute before I could get it settled safely, so what's your go-to move when the weather turns like that on a high-rise job?

Man that sounds terrifying, I'd have needed new pants after that. How do you even keep your cool enough to get it settled? Amy_adams13 has a good point about going with the wind, sometimes fighting it just makes things worse. I always try to lower the boom a bit fast if I can to get the load down closer, even if the chart says you're good, wind doesn't care about the chart lol. Those sudden gusts are the worst part of the job for real.

My go-to move is to lower the load and pray, usually in that order. Definitely had a few "oh crap" moments that made me question my career choices.

Ever try lowering the load real slow and swinging it with the wind? That's what saved my butt last time.
