Warning: Saw a tagline snap in 30 mph wind at the Port of Tacoma, now I rig every load like it will
Two summers back I was at the Port of Tacoma on a container job. Wind hit 30 mph and a tagline snapped on a load that was going up. Nobody got hurt but the load swung maybe 4 feet sideways and guys scattered. The old guys on that crew told me it was my fault for trusting the wind gauge instead of my own gut. Now I rig every pick like the wind is already blowing, even on calm days. Taglines get double checked and I keep a flag on my boom tip so I can see which way it's pushing. Anyone else change their rigging habits after a close call on a specific job site?
