Rant: I wrote a prompt about a detective who can smell lies and it turned into a weird cooking show.
I spent a week building this noir world, but my writing group only wanted to discuss what 'deceit stew' would taste like. Has anyone else had a prompt completely hijacked by a random detail?

Lean into it, then pivot back.

Yeah, that's the whole trick, right? You gotta make them believe the first part completely, or the change doesn't mean anything.

Totally! It's like you have to really commit to the bit before you can change direction. If you try to pivot too soon, it just feels weak and confusing. But if you fully lean in, people get where you're coming from first. That makes the turn way more powerful because they followed the whole path with you. It's all about building that understanding before you switch it up.
