Shoutout to the free writing workshop at the Portland library that got me from zero ideas to a finished draft in 6 months.

I went from staring at a blank page for hours to writing 500 words a day after the instructor said 'just write the bad version first, you can fix it later'... anyone have a similar trick that got them unstuck?

Totally get that. My trick is setting a timer for 15 minutes. Can't stop til it goes off. Usually the hard part is just starting.

Read somewhere that the timer trick works because it lowers the mental barrier. Makes the task feel less like a huge commitment and more like a short experiment. The article called it "time boxing" or something like that. Basically tricks your brain into just getting going.

Ever wonder if the real trick is just giving yourself permission to do a bad job for those first few minutes? Like, the timer isn't just for starting, it's a contract to be messy and just get something down.
