Found a weird WiFi pineapple in my truck stop parking lot in Nevada
Last month I stopped for the night outside Reno and noticed my phone kept trying to join an open network named 'FreeTruckWiFi'. I ran a quick scan with a cheap USB adapter and saw it was spoofing the truck stop's real SSID, so I just stayed on data and told the desk guy, he had no clue. Has anyone else seen these devices popping up at highway stops, and do you bother reporting them or just ignore?
Good call skipping that network. Those spoofed SSIDs are everywhere at truck stops lately. Reporting it probably won't do anything anyway. Just keep data on and ignore it. Not worth the hassle dealing with some clueless desk guy again. Stay off the open APs and you'll be fine.
