My dad told me to write down my passwords in a notebook back in 2005

He said a physical book in my desk was safer than anything online. I did it for a while, but then my apartment in Tempe got broken into and my laptop and that notebook were both stolen. Had to change everything. Anyone else get burned by old school advice that doesn't hold up anymore?

Read a security blog that called the notebook method "analog single point of failure." Pretty much sums it up. The physical security of your home becomes your whole digital security. A fire or a burglary wipes out everything at once. Makes you realize why password managers with a master password are the modern version of that advice.

But what if your password manager gets hacked?

Mine's got two-factor on it... feels safer that way.
