I found out the trick to finding which stores used to be in my dead mall, and it took me 3 trips to figure out
I used to just walk around the Century III Mall near Pittsburgh and guess what each empty spot used to be based on the leftover signs or tile patterns. Last week I brought a pen and paper and started writing down the store numbers on the doors instead. The numbers are still there on most of the gates, like 214 or 107, and you can match them to old mall maps people post online. I found out the space I thought was a KB Toys was actually a Things Remembered for 8 years, then a cell phone kiosk. Now I take a pic of every number I see and check it against the 1998 directory scan I found in a Facebook group. Am I the only one who does the number thing, or do you all just use the old anchor stores as landmarks?
