Best week I've had turned into a nightmare on Friday
Last month I was having the smoothest week ever at a job in Stockton. I did three complete injector replacements on Cummins ISX engines for a local fleet, and every single one fired up perfect on the first try. Then Friday morning the last one came back with a dead cylinder, turned out to be a bad valve seat that wasn't my work at all. Has anyone else had a streak of good work get ruined by something out of their control?

That's the thing about this job (and life really) it's like the universe has a weird sense of humor. You can be knocking it out of the park, everything lining up perfect, and then something completely random and not your fault just smacks you down. I've noticed this happens everywhere, not just in a shop. You'll have a perfect week at home, bills paid, fridge stocked, then your hot water heater explodes. Or you finally get your truck running smooth and a deer jumps out. It's like the good stuff is just setting you up for the fall. Makes you not want to get too comfortable or celebrate too hard.

Man that "setting you up for the fall" part hit home hard. I swear I've seen it happen more times than I can count, both on jobs and just in regular life. Like last fall I had three straight weeks of perfect weather, no call-offs, every job went smooth as glass. Felt like I was on top of the world. Next thing you know I step off a ladder funny and bust my ankle, out for a month, had to cancel a bunch of work I'd already booked. It's like the universe waits until you're feeling good and then yanks the rug. Now I find myself almost bracing for the bad stuff when things are going too well. Just feels like you're borrowing trouble sometimes.
