Fuel filter o-rings gave me fits on a Freightliner in Reno

Last month I swapped filters on a Cascadia and reused the old o-rings because the new ones looked thinner. Truck started fine but after 20 miles it lost prime and stalled right at a weigh station in Reno. I learned to always coat the new o-rings with clean diesel before seating them, and to replace them every single time no matter how good they look. Anyone else have a similar issue with aftermarket filter kits?

Different take on this. Those aftermarket kits usually come with o-rings that are sized wrong more often than not. The factory ones are thicker for a reason, and if the new ones look thinner, that's a red flag to check the part number before you install them. Losing prime at a weigh station sucks, but I'd blame the kit, not the decision to reuse. Clean diesel on the o-rings is good practice, but a thinner seal is a thinner seal no matter how you lube it up.
