Got into it with a client over a simple glow plug swap

This guy insisted I was overcharging him for glow plugs on his Duramax. I showed him the labor time guide and he still argued. Some people just don't get that diesel work ain't cheap.

Break out the shop manual and physically point to the line item for "remove intake manifold" (because that's what you gotta do on most of those Duramax years just to get to the back plugs). Tell him straight up that the book says 2.5 hours and your rate is your rate. If he still balks, offer to let him supply the parts and you'll just charge labor, but warn him that aftermarket glow plugs are a common cause of "why is my truck throwing codes again" a month later. Some customers just need to see the why behind the number, even if they still won't like it.

What else are they always shocked by price wise? Like even if you break down parts versus labor, some folks just see the total and panic. I had a guy nearly faint when I quoted injectors on a 6.0 Powerstroke, and don't even get me started on turbo work. They don't see the hours of busted knuckles and cussing, they just see the invoice.

My invoices, @ivan_perez, would make me cuss.
